Guide to prohibited and restricted items for shipping to Bangladesh

Before you buy

One quick check saves a costly mistake

Restricted items are the exception, not the rule. Here is how to check an item before you order so nothing gets stuck.

  1. 1
    Step 1

    Check the common categories

Skim the restricted categories below. Most parcels are fine, but a few things — loose batteries, flammable liquids, weapons, perishables — are commonly restricted on air freight or by Bangladesh Customs.

  2. 2
    Step 2

    Ask us before you order

If your item could fall into a restricted category, message our 24/7 team with the product link before you buy. It takes a minute and saves you from paying for something that may not be forwardable.

  3. 3
    Step 3

    We confirm forwardability

We check whether the item can be shipped to Bangladesh under current air-freight and customs rules, and tell you if it needs special handling or extra documentation.

  4. 4
    Step 4

    Order with confidence

Once it is cleared to forward, place your order as normal. We handle consolidation, documentation, customs and door-to-door delivery from there.

Commonly restricted

Categories to watch before you order

These are the item types most often restricted on air freight or by Bangladesh Customs. The rules are set by carriers and the government, not by WOOW — so when in doubt, ask us first.

  • Batteries & power banks

Loose lithium batteries and power banks are commonly restricted on air freight for safety reasons. Devices with a built-in battery are often handled differently — check with us first.

  • Flammable liquids & aerosols

Many perfumes, nail polishes, aerosols, lighters and similar flammable or pressurised items are restricted or limited on air freight. Tell us before ordering so we can advise.

  • Chemicals & hazardous goods

Corrosives, compressed gases, certain cleaning chemicals and other hazardous materials are typically not forwardable by air. If you are unsure whether something qualifies, ask us.

  • Weapons, replicas & ammunition

Firearms, ammunition, knives, replicas and similar items are restricted or prohibited by Bangladesh Customs. These cannot be forwarded.

  • Perishables & restricted goods

Fresh food, plants, perishables, counterfeit goods and items banned under Bangladesh Customs rules cannot be forwarded. Some categories are treated differently from others.

  • Medicines & supplements

Prescription medicines and some supplements may need documentation or may be restricted. For health products, check with our team before you order so there are no surprises.

Why some items are restricted

Two rule-sets decide what can fly

Restrictions come from two places. Knowing which is which makes it easy to understand why an item might not be forwardable.

Air-freight safety rules

Carriers restrict dangerous goods — loose batteries, flammable liquids, aerosols, compressed gases and similar items — because they can be unsafe in an aircraft hold. These rules apply worldwide, not just to Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Customs rules

The Government of Bangladesh prohibits or restricts certain imports — for example weapons, narcotics, counterfeit goods and specific regulated items. The definitive list is set by Bangladesh Customs and can change over time.

Conditionally allowed

Some items — medicines, supplements, certain electronics and communication devices — can often be shipped but may need extra documentation or approval. We tell you what is required and prepare the paperwork.

When in doubt, ask first. Because both rule-sets can change and depend on the exact product, we do not publish a fixed line-by-line list here — it could go out of date and mislead. Instead, send our 24/7 team the product link before you buy and we will confirm whether it can be forwarded. For how duty and VAT are assessed once a parcel arrives, see the Bangladesh import duty & customs guide.

FAQ

Prohibited & restricted items: FAQ

Common questions about what can and cannot be shipped from abroad to Bangladesh, and how to check before you order.

Can I ship batteries or power banks to Bangladesh?

Loose lithium batteries and power banks are commonly restricted on air freight for safety reasons, and items with built-in batteries are often handled differently. Whether a specific item can be forwarded depends on the carrier and customs rules at the time, so message our 24/7 team with the product link before you order and we will confirm.

Can I ship perfume or cosmetics to Bangladesh?

Some perfumes, nail polishes and aerosols are flammable or pressurised, which can restrict or limit them on air freight; many other cosmetics ship without issue. Because it depends on the exact product, tell us what you want before ordering and we will advise on forwardability and any special handling.

What items are completely prohibited?

Categories such as weapons, ammunition, narcotics, counterfeit goods, certain hazardous materials and items banned under Bangladesh Customs rules cannot be forwarded. The definitive list of prohibited and restricted goods is set by Bangladesh Customs; if you are unsure about an item, ask us first.

Who decides what is restricted — WOOW or the government?

Two sets of rules apply: air-freight safety rules from the carriers (for dangerous goods like batteries and flammables) and import rules set by Bangladesh Customs (for prohibited and restricted goods). WOOW does not set either; we apply the current rules and tell you whether your item can be forwarded.

What happens if I order a restricted item by mistake?

If a restricted item reaches our facility, it may not be forwardable and could be held or returned, and some charges may not be recoverable. That is exactly why we ask you to check with our team before you order — a quick question up front avoids a costly mistake.

Some items need extra documentation — which ones?

Certain categories, such as medicines, supplements, communication devices and some electronics, may require extra documentation or approval to clear customs. We will tell you what is needed and prepare the paperwork so clearance is not delayed.

How do I check whether my item can be shipped?

Send our 24/7 team the product link or a clear description before you buy. We check it against current air-freight and customs rules and confirm whether it can be forwarded, all before you spend a taka.

Does this apply to consolidated parcels too?

Yes. When several orders are consolidated into one shipment, every item still has to meet air-freight and customs rules. We document each item so the parcel can be assessed and cleared correctly, and we flag anything restricted before it ships.

Not sure if your item can ship? Ask before you order — a one-minute check beats a parcel stuck at the border.
